Trainees pictured during their two week intensive training program
In April 2015, Sydney Local Health District welcomed 18 Aboriginal trainees under a new program, which is the first of its kind for the district.
Participants in the Aboriginal Administration Trainee Program will be employed as full time administrative officers across the district while completing a Certificate III in Health Administration.
Participants get together on a fortnightly basis for ongoing education and support at the training facility in Rozelle NSW.
One participant Natalie Carr - Mundine, will work in outpatient services at Canterbury Hospital and cannot wait to help "in every possible way".
"This traineeship means everything to me. It is opening a new chapter in my life. I will not only be able help people in my own culture, but also non-Indigenous people, and I really want to lean more".
Sydney Local Health District and Yarn'n Vocational Training & Employment Centre (VTEC) have worked together for many years developing numerous programs and opportunities for Aboriginal people to enter the Health industry.
